Workstream progress

Improvement efforts underway

Across the System, improvement efforts are underway to help us become a high-reliability, high-performing organization.

  1. Contract renegotiation with Aramark – Our Corporate Services Workstream is finalizing details on a best practice partnership with Aramark to enhance quality and efficiency. More details on these improvements and changes will be shared in an upcoming newsletter.
  2. Surgical services transformation: Block scheduling optimization – The surgical services and leadership team is rolling out a transparent systematized process for the optimization of surgical scheduling blocks. This Clinical Transformation Workstream initiative will ensure the delivery of a patient-centered experience by providing timely access to our surgical services at Main Line Health and to create a timely and efficient experience for our surgical staff.
  1. Standardized meeting tool templates – The project management office and quality team have collaborated on the development of standardized meeting tools. The tools can be downloaded here. These tools can be utilized to make meetings as efficient as possible and ground our work so that we’re striving to meet our PE2020 goals.
  2. Care coordination progression rounds – The care management team is establishing a standard discharge protocol to help reduce length of stay. With this Clinical Transformation Workstream initiative, routine, standardized assessments made by multi-disciplinary care teams will enable us to evaluate patients and prepare them for discharge in a timely manner.

PE2020 spotlight

Clinical resource management program

By Chris Torres, System Vice President Supply Chain Management

What is it

The supply chain management team has established a standardized decision tool for purchases. The clinical resource management (CRM) program is an important foundation for our PE2020 work; it’s guided by the STEEEP principals and is a ‘systemized approach’ to review new products, services and technology. This platform serves to provide Main Line Health with ‘tools and data’ to address the standardization of care and optimize patient outcomes.

Why it is important

The CRM program is a redesign of our current value analysis/technology assessment programs. In phase 1 there will be two workgroups: patient services and perioperative services.

This program is a standardized Systemwide approach to the decision making process as it relates to the introduction of new technology, products and/or services. There will be an emphasis on standardizing clinical practice as it relates to delivering safe, high quality care. Our process will consider the ‘total value of care.’

The program framework

  • A clinically conscious, consistent and expedient decision-making process
  • Interdisciplinary teams across the continuum of care
  • Executive engagement and support

How everyone can be involved

There are multi-disciplinary workgroups with representatives from across the System. These workgroups are aligned with our CEW’s and service line environments. Our team members will be reaching out to their peers to communicate the review process (what are the products/technology/practice guidelines we are considering), solicit ideas (new product requests), obtain feedback (participation in trials) and share information (education/training).
